Before you begin any hike in the Sedona area, please take note of the weather conditions. Now that the weather has cooled off, be prepared for temperatures that will be cold in the mornings and evenings but warm during the day. Dressing in layers is recommended. If you will be out after sundown, you will definitely need cool weather garments. Even though the temperatures are down, plan on packing plenty of water and nourishment for your trek.
Sedona Weather
BRINS MESA
This 3 mile hike begins near uptown Sedona and climbs to the top of the mesa. You'll gain about 600 feet in elevation during this 3 mile trek. Normal travel time will be about 2 hours. Your views of Sedona and the surrounding red rocks and vistas are outstanding. You should find this out and back hike in the easy to moderate range
BELL ROCK
This 550 foot bell shaped rock is between Sedona and the Village of Oak Creek to the south. It's about a 1 hour duration since Bell Rock is right next to the highway. If you make the full climb you'll gain about 400 feet. No matter how far you go, you will always have great looks at the surround red rocks. The loop is rated as easy to moderate.
BOYNTON CANYON
It is said this hike takes you through a powerful vortex site. You will see ancient Sinagua Indian dwellings which date back to 12oo A.D., stunning rock formations including 1,000 foot high spires. The hike is out designated as out and back and will take approximately 3 hours to cover the 6 miles. You'll gain about 450 feet in elevation. At the trailhead lies the Enchantment Resort.
DEVIL'S BRIDGE
Here's a hike to something a bit different. This short 1 hour hike will take you to a natural sand stone arch from which you can gaze at the beauty of the area. You will travel just a bit under 2 miles in this out and back journey and climb up about 400 feet using natural rocks as simulated stairs.
LITTLE HORSE TRAIL
Here is an easy out and back trail that will take you about 2 hours to traverse. It's about 3.6 miles in length and utilizes part of the urban trails of Sedona. Figure about 2 hours in time to hike out to a scenic overlook and back.
SNOOPY ROCK
Another easy to moderate hike is to Snoopy Rock in about an hour and half time. You'll travel about 2 and a half miles to ner the base of the Crimson Cliffs. Snoopy Rock is named as such due to the likeness of Snoopy from the Peanuts cartoon. This jaunt is rated as easy to moderate and will provide you with more views of this outstanding region.
